Sheer hosiery is consumable: one catch and a pair is finished. Buying in threes is the sensible way to own it, and it works out well below the single pair prices in the range.
Thick enough to hide a lot and to survive being pulled on properly, thin enough to still read as a stocking rather than a tight. That is the weight most people mean when they say sheer without meaning barely there.
